Internet Dating: A Social Stigma?
March 30th, 2005 by Christy PatrickWhy is there a social stigma about Internet dating? Around 40% of the adult American population is single. And, with the demands of our society, people are way too busy to be going out every night searching for Mr. or Ms. Right.
From my own life, at least four of my friends have met their husband/wife/partner online, and probably twice that amount are currently using online dating websites to find dates. And that’s just in my immediate group of friends! How many others must be out there?
With such a potential for success, why do people still feel the need to whisper that they met their date online? Or, why do they make up lies and say, “Oh, I met him through a friend”? I think it’s time we all realized that the world of dating has changed forever. So, stand-up and be proud! There is nothing wrong with trying every means possible to find a soulmate.
