Seniors hooking up on-line

April 26th, 2005 by Nancy

When I think on-line dating, I think 20- and 30-somethings too busy (and too smart) to restrict themselves to traditional ways of meeting people.

Turns out though that it’s not just young people hooking up on-line. I’ve read several articles recently about how seniors have started to create their own on-line dating niche.

The most recent one I read was in The Cincinnati Enquirer. In it, Ron Geraci, a special projects editor for AARP The Magazine, was quoted as saying that internet dating is “rapidly growing among the 50-plus market” and “making inroads into the 60s, too.”

Interesting, huh? A lot of these older folks have been divorced or widowed and are looking to start over. They hear good things about on-line dating from their kids (or grandkids, or great-grandkids…) and many are deciding to give the web a whirl.

Please Nancy, the internet, and blogging, is about the LINK. “I read several articles lately…” Where, who, what, when, How? Where is the HOT LINK??? You can do that now. As a savy social journalist these little things matter to the community at large. Have you heard of “speed dating”? It is HOT! for the “over 40″ crowd. Do a google, and then hot link the www. Then everyone will know where you have been and where you are going next. It can be very exciting. But, if you are just going to tell instead of SHOW us….:>( boring. Sorry.
