Kiss City Seattle ….

December 26th, 2005 by leafworks

Kiss City, Seattle …
and No, we’re not talking about the rock band or a radio station. We’re talking about good ol’ modern dance club and pub sprawl kissing. Now I’ve travelled wide and far, having lived in Vancouver BC, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Roswell NM, Eugene Oregon, Vicksburg Mississippi, Tallahassee FL, Seattle, Houston, and Italy. No other city unlike Seattle do I notice many many people kissing freely and without thought. Good thing? the lips love it. Bad thing? Could very well be if you don’t want to catch the flu or mono when its making its way through the city. Open, flirting, kissing? I never really minded it, though never really participated in it until recent years. Even when I was living up in Vancouver and was hanging out at some Poly partys and they passed the clove-in-fruit where one would pass the fruit to another and if they took the clove in their mouth, it meant they wanted to be kissed. Strangers kissing strangers. I was always hesitant on that game. Not because I’m against kissing … far from it … I’m a huggy kissy type, even with some friends. I love kissing.

But strangers and new acquaintances kissing just for the sake of kissing? Well, I’m no longer for it. I prefer to kiss those I know and those I trust, and those I care for. To me, kissing means something, its an act of caring and affection for another, its a sharing of passion you have with another. Why else do it? Why risk catching the stranger’s cold? flu? Mono? or something more serious like saliva based STD’s? No thank you. I’ve been very lucky that I’ve never caught anything more than a cold from kissing a new set of lips that wasn’t intended as an act of compassion, love, thoughtfulness, interest, or intimacy. Mardi Gras? Strangers please do not kiss me. My lips are reserved from here-on-out for those I care for and want included in my life as good friends or lovers. Its funny though, I’ve only noticed this behavior in Seattle at the alternative clubs there … not a single other city. If people kiss, they usually hook up. People don’t come up and make out with you on the dance floor or at a party like they do in Seattle. My lips are sealed.
