Celebrating Singlehood
March 15th, 2006 by Sarah WhiteBeing single is often (though not always) a conscious choice, and the reasons for staying single are all over the map. Singles might not want children, find being single more fun, or simply like being alone.
Of all the reasons to enjoy being single (there are 52 here) they mostly boil down to the idea of freedom.
When you are single, you have the freedom to choose everything that happens in your life. You don’t have to think about your partner (or your children) before quitting your job or taking all your savings and running off on a singles’ cruise to the Bahamas.
Your finances, housing situation, whether you have pets, how you dress, what you eat every day and how often (or infrequently) you clean the house are all up to you. You don’t have to answer to anyone, and that’s pretty nice.
All your money is yours, and if you want to blow a paycheck on a Prada bag, or save it all to buy a house for yourself, you can do that.
This isn’t to say that being married or in a long-term relationship is all about compromise, but when you’re single it really is all about you. It may not always be as fun as “Sex in the City,” but it’s all within your control, no matter what you choose to do with it.
