Dating and First Impressions

December 22nd, 2007 by Kathy

First impressions are important, but it’s important to “express” ourselves honestly instead of impressing for the sake of impressing.

Too many people put on a good show to impress only for their true colors to come out later on. Sometimes the contrast between the person you’re trying to be and the person you really are, is so great, it’s like two people in one.

By showing who you truly are, from the moment you meet someone, you are building a bond upon honesty. There aren’t any lies to cover up later on. Besides, if you are covering up the person you truly are, you should be asking yourself what you have to hide and why aren’t you making changes in yourself, your life so that you aren’t afraid to show the real you. Creating false impressions comes from a dislike for ourselves and a need to be accepted by others. It’s a better feeling to be accepted for who we are instead of a script we write. The curtain soon falls down.

So often we are disappointed to find out the hidden qualities of a person that failed to show us who they are early on. They try to impress us falsely and later on it feels we are with a stranger. We feel deceived.

First impressions are remembered for a long time. You can’t take them back. Don’t be afraid of showing who you are. Positive and lasting impressions are built on truth and truth is the glue that binds two people together intimately.
