Review: Plentyoffish and My Experience
December 22nd, 2007 by KathyA few months ago, I signed up for plentyoffish.com. It was more or less out of curiosity to see how the site worked and to see the available men in my area. I wasn’t looking for a relationship, but was open to seeing what possibilities were there.
Plentyoffish is free. Signing up is easy and there are no hidden costs. The site offers many features such as private messaging, instant messaging, the ability to post a detailed profile and several pictures.
Plentyoffish also has an interactive forum with many boards and topics. I loved the recipe board. It seemed some members found pleasure in attacking others that wanted help with dating/relationship issues. Yet, there were members who were very helpful. Some boards were a bit risque in terms of sexual discussions. Overall, the boards offered a good variety of topics.
A “Relationship Needs Assessment” is also offered for free with customized “action plans” based on questions a member answers.
You can search for members by age range, town or state, ethnicity and even astrological signs. There’s a feature where you can see who has viewed your profile and also a feature where you can add members to your favorites list.
I didn’t meet the man of my dreams, but did make a couple of good friends. Most men who contacted me had little to say. Their words were few and most did not appear to be interactive or good communicators. It’s very difficult to get to know someone when their words don’t get past a “hello, how are you”. The rare few who stood out had something to say and knew how to communicate well.
Some men seemed desperate, offering their phone number right away or getting angry because I wanted to get to know them at a reasonable pace. Some wanted a relationship and fast. That didn’t impress me.
Overall, I feel Plentyoffish is what you make of it. The site offers plenty of features and opportunities. As with any venue, there’s good and bad, but using the right approach, knowing what you want and weeding out what you don’t want, you just may find the person who is right for you. And the price cannot be beat!
