Lying About Age

April 22nd, 2008 by Kathy

Especially as we get older, some people are tempted to lie about their age, maybe as an attempt to appear more attractive in the dating world. That conjures up the question…”if you didn’t know how old you are, how old would you be”? How do others perceive you and just how old do you feel?

At first glance, a person is going to have an impression of your age, so the age you actually are won’t detract from what you look like. You may look younger or you may look older. Or you may look your age. So what purpose does it serve to lie about your age?

A woman who is 45 and looks 35 may attract a much younger man. She may tell him she’s 35, but if they get involved in a relationship and she has to come clean about her real age and the fact she no longer can have children, it could very well be a deal breaker.

A man who is 45 and looks 35 may also attract someone much younger, but when the truth comes out, it could make a difference. Not in relation to what he looks like, but what the age difference or the “lie” may mean to the younger woman.

People look “an” age, but not necessarily their biological age. That can work to one’s advantage or disadvantage, but more than anything…a lie almost always backfires!
