Online Dating: Displaying a Photo
June 21st, 2008 by KathyWhen browsing through an online dating site you want to see a photo of those you wish to contact. Anyone who is confident enough to post a photo of themselves is going to be approached more often than the person who has no photo displayed. Looks are important to most people, at least to get an initial feel for the person.
Not having a photo may imply “unattractive” to some. Some people may feel you are hiding something.
It can be intimidating to have a photo on public display, but you can choose to make what moves you feel comfortable with. You don’t have to correspond with anyone that your instincts tell you to stay away from.
If you feel a particular person is not for you, that’s your choice and you don’t have to continue correspondence. You are in full control of whom you wish to corresond with and possibly meet in person.
Dating is about finding out about each other and establishing whether a meaningful relationship might happen down the road. Part of getting to know each other is by sharing a photo and getting a feel for who each other is.
Of course there are exceptions to every rule. Sometimes there is a legitimate reason a person doesn’t wish to have a photo on public display and they may be a nice person and willing to share a photo once they get to know you better. Still, most people do better on a dating site if they have a photo.
