Getting to Know Someone New

Tags: , ,

Many people complain these days about how hard it is to meet someone new or if they meet someone new, things fall apart before anything gets started. Could this be because one or both parties don’t put in the real effort and genuine interest in getting to know someone?

Meeting someone new should be about getting to know each other slowly. If one can recite the other’s life story and the other person is doing well to remember the new person’s name, there is a problem. It shows that one party either doesn’t have good social skills or is all about themselves.

If you meet someone new, be keenly aware of what you say and do. Do you ask appropriate questions about the other person to truly find out who they are and if they are someone you even want in your life? Do you find the conversations are very one-sided? If so, maybe this isn’t the person for you. Getting to know someone new should be a mutual involvement where both parties feel acknowledged.

When you meet someone new, be yourself and put your best foot forward, but remember there is someone on the other end, too. If you don’t show genuine interest, your chance may be gone all too quickly.
