Reasons Being Single can be a Smart Move At Times

For many people, being in a committed relationship is a very beneficial thing, while for others, it is smarter to remain single. Life situations, personality traits, and lifestyle choices all have a bearing on whether a relationship is a good thing or a bad thing for each individual. Life is a constantly changing story for each of us, so there are times that it is best to be single even if this will not be our relationship status for the entirety of our life. The following are some situations that people find themselves in which make staying single a very wise decision for a time.

When a person has recently gotten out of a bad relationship, especially one in which there has been any form of abuse, it is a smart move to remain single for a time. The person will need time to heal and recover from the relationship. He or she may also have damaged self-esteem that must be rebuilt in order for them to enjoy healthy and happy relationships in the future.

Single parents may benefit from remaining uninvolved in relationships while they raise their children. While there is nothing inherently wrong with single parents dating and remarrying, it can be easier to be alone. They are then the only ones who are making decisions regarding the children and don’t have to worry about the kind of step-parent a potential partner will make. There is, in many ways, less stress involved.

A person who is at a point in life when he or she is pursuing their future goals and dreams can often do so more efficiently when there is no relationship distractions to worry about. Relationships take time to maintain and when there are other things going on that also take a good deal of time, something has to give.

There are also certain people who just do better on their own. There are people who like to play the field, so to speak, and they should not enter into relationships where one person feels that there is a commitment that simply isn’t there for their partner. There are also some men and women who are totally focused on their careers, often referred to as “workaholics”, they may be better off on their own, as any relationships they enter into will necessitate that they divide their attention when they really don’t want to. These are a couple of examples of people for whom the single life is a very good thing.

It is nice for most people to be in relationships. They enjoy the companionship and the exchange of love and intimacy. However, there are situations that make the single life a better choice and people for whom it should be the only choice. Whether for a time or for life, it is a smart move for some people to relish their single status rather than to rush into romantic relationships with others.
