Being single is a wonderful opportunity to grow as a person and put yourself first. When you are just getting out of a relationship, you may not feel that way at first, but by embracing you newfound single-hood, you can learn to celebrate their independence in a way that is almost impossible when you’re in a relationship. Here are a few reasons why being single means living for yourself.
There Is No “We” in “I”
Remember when you were in a relationship and you suddenly became a part of a whole? Instead of “I want” it became “we want,” and it was dependent on your other half’s input, too. Being single gives you a time to be justifiably selfish in all aspects of your life because you have no one else’s needs to worry about. By putting yourself first, you will feel more confident standing up for yourself at work and not settling for dates with people who don’t live up to your standards.
Everything is Your Responsibility
Single men and women must rely on themselves for everything from doing chores to paying the bills. It may seem like a negative at first (having no one to split the work with,) but you will soon find that taking on the challenge of extra responsibility will make you feel accomplished. You will prove to yourself that you can do more than you ever thought, and when it is time to settle down, you will have no problem adjusting to the lightened workload.
You Have Nobody to Answer To
This is one of the most fantastic things about being single, and it can also be the most life-shaping. When you have no one to answer to, you are free to go out and do what you want. In turn, you will realize that every person should have this ability, and you may begin to view relationships differently – and for the better. Enjoy not answering to anyone, and keep it in mind for your next relationship. No one ever likes being told what to do.
As you celebrate these newfound freedoms of the life, you will evolve into a more independent person, and hopefully you will be able to take it with you whenever you decide to start dating again.
